What Major Factor are People Missing When Setting Goals?

Goal setting is very important to personal growth and may be even more important to successful entrepreneurship. Every successful person has somewhere along the line set goals for themselves and stuck to them to achieve their success.

Goal setting can take your plan and turn it into a reality however there is a right way and wrong way to set goals and many people that set goals do not ever reach them because they are lacking one important component to their goal setting. Accountability!

Writing it Down May Not Be Enough

The advice is always to write your goals down so that you have a visual to relate to and something tangible to hang on to. Of course it is good advice to write down your goals but you also have to have some form of accountability in place.

If you write down your goals, it is not the magic step to get you motivated. It is a good first step but it is only a step. Most people do not have a lot of problems writing down their goals they have the problem implementing the steps. What can you do differently that will promote achievement? Make yourself accountable to your goals!

The Benefits

There are quite a few benefits to have an accountability factor in your goal setting whether your goals are set for personal growth or to achieve milestones in your entrepreneurship.

1. Accountability keeps you focused. There are things in everyone’s life that come up that will take you off track. Having someone that you have made your purpose partner or that is your mentor or coach that can refocus you is a great asset in staying on track toward your goals.

2. Accountability keeps you grounded. Trying to reach your goals can be overwhelming at times to the point of wanting to just throw in the towel. When you know that you have someone that you can turn to that can “talk you off the ledge” it fosters the desire to succeed. Of course accountability also means that you do not want to disappoint someone by throwing in the towel.

3. Accountability is a good measure of success. Sometimes we think we are not moving forward because we cannot see the difference but if you have someone that can hold you accountable then you also have someone that can remind you of the progress you have made with your goal setting.

Get a coach, a mentor or a purpose partner to help you to make the changes that you need to make to reach your goals!
